EverEnviro's CBG Plant in Indore Hits a Milestone
First CBG Project to Operate at Full Capacity
EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt Ltd, a leading Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) developer in India, has reached a significant milestone with its Indore Clean Energy Project becoming the first CBG project in India to reach full operational capacity. The CBG facility in Indore, inaugurated by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, is also India’s largest MSW-based CBG facility.
The project has played a pivotal role in catapulting Indore as the cleanest city in India. Operating in a Public-Private Partnership with the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), the plant is a cornerstone in the city’s environmental strategy, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It also provides a renewable energy source, offering a cleaner fuel alternative for both residential and commercial sectors in Indore.
In recent months, the facility has achieved a consistent production rate of nearly 15 tonnes per day (TPD) of compressed biogas (CBG), reaching a milestone with its highest single-day CBG production of 18 tonnes in March 2024. Transforming from a site previously laden with 200,000 metric tonnes (MT) of waste, it now efficiently processes 550 MT of organic waste each day. This daily treatment of segregated organic material has resulted in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, cutting up to 70,000 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2eq), thereby enhancing the environmental quality of the region’s 4.3 million inhabitants. The plant boasts the capability to generate 17 tonnes of biofuel and 40 MT of organic fertilizer daily. Over the next two decades, it is projected to avert the accumulation of more than 4 million tonnes of waste. The integration of CBG into the network of Avantika Gas Limited (AGL) in Indore has facilitated a shift to eco-friendly fuel for roughly 15,000 households. Furthering its commitment to sustainable urban mobility, EverEnviro’s CBG output is now fuelling the city buses managed by the Indore Municipal Corporation, marking a significant step towards greener public transport options.
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Mahesh Girdhar, MD and CEO of EverEnviro, said, “EverEnviro remains committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable energy production. We take pride in setting new standards for efficiency, investing in global resources and innovation, and establishing a value proposition for the industry. The impact of this CBG plant extends beyond Indore, contributing to both the community and the nation at large.”
Mr KA Chowdary, Chief Project and Operations Head at EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt Ltd, also commented on the milestone, "Stabilizing this pioneer facility in India was initially challenging for our team. During the initial testing phase, significant investments were made in technologies and machinery to effectively manage source-segregated waste, the most suitable input for the plant. We are proud to announce that, through continuous learning and effort, we have successfully reached nearly 100% operational capacity."
The CG plant has rapidly become a learning destination for those interested in compressed biogas development and the conversion of waste into valuable resources. The plant has hosted a diverse group of visitors, including representatives from Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) from across India, as well as students, scholars, researchers, and dignitaries from around the world. Notable guests include figures such as the British High Commissioner and mayors from neighbouring countries, all keen to study this successful model of energy innovation and sustainable development.
This ground-breaking facility marks a significant step towards achieving renewable energy goals and supports the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban, aiming to create 'Garbage Free Cities' and extend its impact beyond Indore.
